Show summary ▾ In this Scratch project, I've created a fun way to make battle royale games more challenging by adding a feature that selects a random position to drop on the map. First, I uploaded an image of the map as a backdrop. Then, I added code to broadcast a message called "new location" whenever the stage is clicked. Next, I programmed an arrow sprite to move to a random location and point in a random direction when it receives the "new location" message. Now, whenever you click on the map, it will randomly select a new location for you to drop into the game.

You'll see how to add sounds from the Sounds tab and code them to play when keys are pressed, making music with your keyboard. I demonstrate how to switch backdrops to show funny faces with sound. We'll also cover fixing a common bug where quickly pressing keys can cause interruptions. Finally, you'll learn to create a beat or melody by adding rests and using repeat blocks.

We'll start by deleting the Scratch Cat and adding a spooky sprite. Then, we'll code the slideshow to switch backdrops every few seconds when the green flag is clicked. For the surprise, we'll hide the ghost sprite at first, then show it with a spooky sound. To make the surprise even more interesting, we'll use a "pick random" block to randomize the timing.
